A year-long co-design program with the Ford Foundation, 3 corporate partners, and IDEO to better center the voices of frontline workers in key company decisions, particularly related to technology. Back in 2020, during the height of the pandemic, the contrast between the public narrative around frontline workers as “essential” and the realities of harmful/undignified working conditions for many.
The Ford Foundation approached IDEO with the question of how far companies would voluntarily go to embrace the idea that what’s good for worker wellbeing is also good for business outcomes.
In the last year, efforts by the ZSFGH ED Discharge Task Force and ambulatory service partners to provide seamless transitions for patients between acute and ambulatory care are on its way to create a cohesive care coordination system, especially for our high-risk populations that need care continuity. Currently the task force is working on designing and implementing new protocols and educational tools, with an emphasis on the “user’s” (eg. patient and provider experience). Utilizing principles from implementation sciences methodology, we anticipate several iterative processes to design low-fidelity prototypes and protocols to implement user-centered solutions.
The Waiting Room Project is being designed to improve patient experience with follow-up care. While ED patients are waiting to be seen, this tool will enhance health system knowledge and literacy in San Francisco Health Network. It also includes health education tools and social resources. It will have videos and interactive component to increase patient and provider communication.
The Acute Care Innovation Center (ACIC) focuses technology innovations to address gaps in San Francisco’s Acute Care system. By engaging with design and engineering partners to develop evidence-based solutions, the ACIC evaluates these products in our unique UCSF Department of Emergency Medicine and The Acute Care Test Bed. I am the Design and Innovation Lead.
PEM Pearls focuses on teaching easily-digestible, valuable and up-to-date information for emergency medicine providers learning pediatric EM topics. I am the Editor-in-Chief.
I created a resident-led group that has been producing a health policy curriculum for our residency. We lead a lecture series with guest speakers and small group discussions on health policy and disparities topics.
